The Path Forward Project

Background:

During the past year, The Global ARC put out a call for submissions, collecting local, domestic, and international community responses to the murder of George Floyd. Anyone who wanted to submit a piece was accepted, and participants were asked to relate their submissions to one or more of the following content areas:

  • Racism

  • Police Misconduct

  • System Change

We collected these submissions to share with each other resources and perspectives, and to open up and guide some of the conversations and education surrounding these issues. It is our intention to stimulate thinking about ‘The Path Forward’ that will transform our country into the just, caring, and compassionate society that all residents desire and deserve. Included in our original call for submissions was the following message from our President and CEO, Paul L. Watson Jr.:

“I truly believe that in the process of creating the change that is necessary to bring our country together in order to transform into a just and equitable society, where our demonstration of love and caring of humanity shines, every resident must find and understand their role and contribution to establishing and protecting that society.

Many people believe that it is not possible within a capitalist system to have a caring, loving, equitable and just society exist. We do have examples worldwide of Democratic Socialism that combines both free enterprise and people’s basic needs guaranteed by the government. I am not interested in debating this thought at this time, however, what is clear to me is the American application of capitalism has grossly failed to care for all of its people. The balance has been heavily weighted, from the beginning, to favor property over caring for and having compassion for all of its people.

My resolve is – This can not continue!

We are proud to present the final collection in time to commemorate Black August. This Black August, we would like to reflect on the contributions and sacrifices made by Black Freedom Fighters in pursuit of justice in the United States of America. The collection begins with a foreword written by Paul L. Watson Jr. explaining the history behind Black August and its significance to this collection.

The booklet was originally designed for physical print, with a cover page and some pieces presented as two-page spreads.
